I started piano at 7 years of age studying with Nettie Mae Clement, co-founder of the San Francisco Conservatory of Music. I received Academic and Performance Degrees from University of California, Berkeley and the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, where I also received my vocal training. I have been performing in public and teaching for over 30 years. I have worked extensively with members of San Francisco Symphony, San Francisco Opera and the Luzern Orchester. I have studied and performed with conductors such as Kent Nagano and Denis de Coteaux. I have also worked with Stefano Flavoni who has conducted the New York Philharmonic, Hamburg Staatsoper and San Francisco Symphony.
Apart from my classical background I have performed and recorded extensively in many popular music genres. I can teach any style of music. Associations include the Dead Kennedys, the Grateful Dead, Bruce Springsteen and the Rolling Stones.
Many of my students have attended Nueva and Crowden Schools. My students have performed at Carnegie Hall and the American Conservatory Theater. They have also performed with the San Francisco Symphony Youth Orchestra, Ragazzi Boys Chorus and the Peninsula Youth Orchestra. Upon graduation they have gone on to colleges such as New York University and the University of the Pacific.
I re-started the Clocktower Piano program in December of 2022 after the easing of the pandemic. I had previously established a municipal program in the East Bay for eight years. I anchored another municipal program on the Peninsula for fourteen years while maintaining a private home clientele and home studio.

I've been a professional musician for over 50 years, performing on piano, acoustic guitar, electric bass guitar and vocals. My mother was a full-time piano teacher and I studied at her knee for six years until I fell in love with the guitar at age 11.
In high school I played first trumpet in the marching and concert band while playing guitar and singing in my own popular rock group. I went on to study Music History, Music Theory, and Composition at Harvard University. I translated my academic education into a life of music as a singer/songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, record producer and band leader. I've never looked back.
I continue to perform around the Bay Area, and am now looking to pass forward my years of experience to not only children who want to learn, but to students of all ages. I believe that it's never too late to rekindle an early passion that has somehow slipped away or too soon to experience the excitement of learning a new instrument.
With that in mind, I'm offering readily accessible and compassionate lessons uniquely tailored to the goals of each student. I can guide you through music reading, theory, learning by ear, improvisation and composition – or any combination that has inspired you to seek in-person, one-on-one instruction.
You can check out my musical bio at atkinsonkincheloe.com or simply Google 'George Kincheloe' to hear my recordings on Apple, Amazon, Spotify and SoundCloud. In the end, what matters most to me is what I might offer to you that will deepen the joy you find in music.
